The five stages of the Training Program
There are five stages to becoming a De La Salle Brother. Each stage carefully prepares you for the next phase of your development.

Stage 1: initial contact
During this stage of the training program you will get to know more about the life and work of the De La Salle Brothers through regular contact with a Brother. There will be opportunities for you to spend short periods of time living in a Brothers' community while continuing your own work or study. There is no specified time frame for this stage but most have regular contact for up to a year before making the decision to go on to the next stage.

Stage 2: postulancy
You’ll start by spending 12 - 18 months in a Brothers’ community living and working alongside the Brothers. During this stage you’ll deepen your understanding of the Lasallian way of life. This is valuable in preparing you for the Novitiate.

Stage 3: Novitiate
During the 12-month Novitiate stage, you’ll live as a Brother. It’s a time for deep, personal reflection as you develop your spiritual commitment, in preparation for taking your vows.

Stage 4: Vows
You’ll commit to joining the De La Salle Brothers by taking the five vows of association, poverty, chastity, obedience and stability. At this time you will receive a posting to a Brothers community to begin your work and life as a De La Salle Brother.

Stage 5: Ongoing commitment
As a new Brother, you renew your vows annually for at least five years before permanently committing to the Brother's vocation.
